Time for a quick culture lesson, you may or may not know that sakura (the Japanese cherry blossom season) is one of the most celebrated seasons in the Japanese calendar – told you it was quick. So in honour of this, Sake no Hana on St James Street, will be launching a pop up cherry blossom secret garden between 7th April and 19th May.
Together with florist Veevers Carter, Sake no Hana have created a fantastical garden which will see beautiful pink cherry blossom, enveloping and entwining the bar to enter guests will step through an enchanting, fairy tale-esque entrance made of interweaving branches and archways of blossom, whilst inside the bar there will be two large cherry blossom trees creating an elaborate canopy effect. There will also be Jo Malone blossom-scented candles to complete the experience.
There will also be limited edition drinks, bento boxes and macaroons such as the Hanami Bellini Cocktail made from Prosecco, Luxardo cherry liqueur, Heering cherry liqueur, sake, lime and Tanqueray gin, or the Sakura Tea, a pot of tea made from leaves of cherry blossom trees. Food wise guests can indulge in cherry blossom macaroons or Sakura Palet D’or a cherry-chocolate pudding.
On Saturday 26th April guests will views the spectacle that is ‘Kagami Biraki’, a time-honoured Japanese ceremony which entails the lid of a sake barrel being dramatically broken open by a wooden mallet before the sake is served in traditional cups. Accompanying this will be Japanese Taiko drummers with a captivating, high-energy, carnival-like performance.
