A Bit of Basque Cuisine at Bilbao Berria

2011 MasterChef winner Ash Mair has launched his debut restaurant project, the transplanting of Spanish chain Bilbao Berria from Spain to London. Today’s opening of the new restaurant on Regent Street today marks the chain’s first expedition outside of the flamenco-dancing country.

In the casual environment of the upstairs taverna, help yourself to traditional Basque pintzos. ‘What are they?’ I hear you cry; think skewered tapas on bitesize slices of bread commonly eaten alongside a glass of local wine. If you’re looking for a more formal dining experience then reserve a table and head downstairs for classic as well as modernised Basque and Spanish dishes.

Both floors have open kitchens showcasing the unique style of food and exposing the charcoal grills that give the food its smoky flavours. The ‘open’ feel resonates in the restaurant’s aim of creating a fun eating experience that brings people together.
