Forget what you know about pub food, Bumpkin, has banished microwaves in lieu of meals created with fresh ethically sourced and sustainable ingredients served in a rustic, dining room.
There are several Bumpkins located around London; South Kensington, Notting Hill, Westfields and Chelsea, all with the same ethos of providing the best organic, British produce. We popped down to the South Kensington Bumpkin that boasts its very own private dining room which can host up to 36 guests as well as a few outside tables that we managed to nab.
We started with Pan seared Scottish King Scallops served with a chilled pea soup and crispy bacon which was light and full of flavour, the bacon provided a pleasant kick with its saltiness. The Bucket of King Prawns starter is actually a pint but although the name was downsized the flavour was not as it made for a fresh and delicious start to the meal.
Nothing beats a good roast dinner on the best of days let alone at a proper British pub so our winning main has to be the Roasted Free Range Chicken Breast served with baked Jersey Royals and mixed beets.
We finished off the meal with the Baked Vanilla Custard with poached rhubarb and hazelnut crumble which made for a great summer pudding. Even if you are not lucky enough to nab a coveted outside table, you needn't worry as Bumpkin is providing a little slice of the countryside directly in the city.
