In celebration of the new Paddington Bear film (I’m very excited) the super plush – and family friendly – Athenaeum hotel is launching a specially themed afternoon tea, featuring none other than Paddington Bear himself. You even get your very own Paddington Bear toy to take home with you, which for someone over the age of 12 I was probably a little too excited by.
The Tea is served in their luxuriously cosy Garden Room, where the windows look out onto their ‘living’ wall (very cool) and everything is a wonderfully warming tone of cream or orange – quite apt as it turns out. The hotel oozes sophistication and elegance, and the Garden Room is the perfect snug retreat from the wintery weather. And so we sank into their super comfy sofas and settled down to enjoy a notably orange-heavy afternoon tea (well after all, Paddington did loves his marmalade).
Now I’ll admit I was sceptical about just how many of the components of this afternoon tea seemed to involve the citrus fruit. Marmalade Glazed Ham with Clementine Marmalade, and Orange Bakewell Tarts all sounded slightly overwhelming to my (not overly keen on marmalade) self. But I can gladly say that my fears were definitely without merit. Their marmalade, made in house, was really amazing – seriously I was slathering it on everything, I am officially a convert. And the dessert delights were equally delicious, most notably the orange macaroons and the adorably dinky Chocolate Tea Cups filled with orange and white chocolate mousse. Guests are also invited to sample even more sweet treats from the cakes trolley, which is always available alongside the standard afternoon tea but which changes daily – so you could never get bored!
The Athenaeum’s afternoon tea has previously been voted the Best in London and you can certainly see why, with this Paddington Bear special being no exception. It’s everything you’d want in an Afternoon Tea and more – you even get a toy! It’s like the fanciest, most delicious Happy Meal ever…well, maybe not quite but you get the gist. Perfect for children and adults alike; this afternoon tea not only tastes good, it does good too; with £5 from every afternoon tea going to Action Medical Research – a charity that supports the medical research of sick children. So you can sip on your Earl Grey, nibble your orange infused treats and cuddle your Paddington Bear, guilt free! As it’s all for a good cause.
The Paddington Bear Afternoon Tea launches 1 November and runs till 31 December.

Having lived in London all her life, Kate is ashamed to admit she still hasn't visited many of the standard tourist attractions (although she does plan to), preferring to focus instead on the Capital's numerous dining (and wining) options.
