Grab your shooting jacket and head to York & Albany’s winter cabin this week, where you will be treated to a hunting lodge complete with wild game and plenty of fun. Set in the cosy courtyard of the restaurant and inspired by the age of hunting grounds of the surrounding Regent’s Park, you will be in for a rural retreat with the added bonus of not having to leave the confines of London. Combine this with outdoor heaters, scented candles and live music and this whole hunting thing suddenly became a whole load more enticing.
Tweed, tartan and taxidermy will be very much on the cards with diners being able to indulge in toasty tipples and game fare. You can officially enjoy the benefits of hunting, without having to wade through fields and face the cold. And face the cold, you won’t- being heated up with mulled wine, hot apple cider and a collection of cocktails. Of particular interest is From The Hip which adds an alcoholic twist to hot chocolate with a hit of Barcardi rum. Or if you are feeling like a more festive hunter then make sure to try Winter is Coming, which combines gingerbread liquor with orange marmalade, bitters and lemon. Suddenly we are not so disgusted by the prospect of winter coming in.
With no mountain to drive down, indulgence is encourage- you are going to need some fuel over those hunting weekends after all. With a menu courtesy of head chef Kim Woodward, complete with wild boar burgers, venison meatballs and black pudding scotch eggs, it won’t be long until your inner hunter comes out.
