A new Joint in town

Back in August 2012 Daniel Fiteni and Warren Dean set up a pop-up in Brixton Village Market, The Joint, serving up a whole load of pulled pork (they’re experts on the stuff), slaw and spicy wings – they were among London’s pioneers for American BBQ scene. Fast forward to 2015 and they’ve just launched their second branch in Marylebone.

Situated on New Cavendish Street, the restaurant is kept simple with festoon lighting, long refectory tables, wooden benches, bare walls and industrial metal work – even the food was served on paper plates. If you’re taking a date expect it to be a bit raucous and to get food all over your face, maybe suggest it for the second or third date. If you’re taking your friends then grab a table and get stuck in, unwrapping the parcels of sweetcorn and you’ll forget about sticky fingers when you take your first bite of the dangerously good ribs.

Cocktails were served from the tap and came in Kilner jars – go for the white sangria, filled with raspberries, blueberries and mint it’s more refreshing than its red counterpart.

The menu is short and sweet, a few starters to share and main courses revolve around pulled pork in a bun or wrap, burgers and those ribs. It’s also surprisingly affordable for New Cavendish Street with a pulled pork bun being £8.75 and when you see the size of it, you’ll see why. In one word, it was huge. A bun the size of our face piled high with pulled pork, slaw, candied bacon, guacamole, cheese and sauce and oh was it good. It probably helped that we hadn’t eaten much that day (in our attempt to detox in January) as it is pretty gigantic, finishing it is no mean feat and if that had been my last meal on earth then I would have been happy.

Downstairs is a bold monochrome cocktail bar which seats 25, although it look quite unfinished and closed when we there.

If you’re looking for something casual and truly want to get stuck in then you want to head to The Joint now.
