The 72nd Annual Golden Globes

The 72nd Annual Golden Globes

Comedy duo and celebrity best friends, Amy Poehler and Tina Fey returned to host the 72nd Annual Golden Globes last night, with famed famous from both sides of the pond turning up in their droves to see if they had won an enviable Globe award.

British actor Eddie Redmayne beat off fellow Brit actors, Benedict Cumberbatch (for The Imitation Game) and David Oyelowo (for Selma) to win best actor in a drama for his role as physicist Professor Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything. His co-star Felicity Jones unfortunately missed out on the best drama actress award which went to Julianne Moore, who played an academic with early onset Alzheimer’s in Still Alice.

Highly nominated films like the Alan Turing drama The Imitation Game had five chances to win, while thriller Gone Girl with four nominations, both walked away empty handed. George Clooney was awarded the Cecil B DeMille lifetime achievement award, while actors Billy Bob Thornton, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Kevin Spacey were all awarded TV acting awards.
