They might have missed Squirrel Appreciation Day (yep, that happened – 21st January apparently) but The Cinnamon Club are making up for it by putting Rajasthani-spiced grey squirrel on their menu from 9th-21st February.
To coincide with his appearance on Jimmy & Jamie’s Friday Night Feast, head chef Rakesh Ravindran Nair is throwing caution to the wind and risking his reputation as a top chef at London’s best curry house by serving the unusual animal to daring diners.
The Rajasthani rodent will have his (or her) legs and shoulders marinated with coriander, cloves, garlic, chilli and pineapple juice and then be placed in a special tandoor oven to ensure it’s cooked to perfection. The belly will be braised and made into kadhai-style stir-fry with peppers and onion, served up alongside pickled vegetables, coriander chutney and garlic naan. Nair has also helpfully picked out a wine, the Friulano At Aquila del Torre from 2011, because we’re guessing you don’t know what goes with squirrel either.
You’d be nutty to miss it! (Sorry, we couldn’t resist…).
