If there are two things that London loves then it is afternoon tea and gin, so chances are if you pair them then you are going to be on to a real winner. And it just so happens that Hush in Mayfair are launching their Gin and Jam Tea this weekend – so if you’re fan of tea, gin or need a Mother’s Day present then read on.
If you didn’t know Hush has its own brand of gin (fancy eh?) exclusively created by Hush’s own Bar Director, Pedro Solorzano and they’ve curated cocktails that reflect the more unusual flavours of the gin which include tonka beans, jasmine lotus and lavender and each one is paired with a jam base which has been created exclusively by Wendy Brandon who has been making handmade jam in the UK for over 30 years.
Served in the Silver Room, the tea starts with a Pink Rabbit welcome cocktail – a muddle of Hush gin, lime, cranberry, vanilla and Wendy Brandon strawberry jam and then alongside their tea you can choose another gin cocktail to go with your sandwiches. Perhaps you’ll go for the Violet Beauregarde – gin, cranberry, violet liqueur, elderflower cordial with gooseberry and elderflower jam. Or maybe if you like pineapple, cinnamon, ginger beer then the Pippi Longstocking will take your fancy which is paired with rhubarb and ginger jam.
Accompanying the cocktails are elegant sandwiches, warm scones with lashings of clotted cream and jam, macaroons and an Earl Grey crème brûlée, served alongside a selection of artisan loose leaf teas by H. R. Higgins of Mayfair.
