Let’s be honest, who doesn’t love some fluffy pastries, cucumber sandwiches and fresh fruit? We love going into patisseries and finding a great afternoon snack, but sometimes we just want a quick fix and don’t have the time to eat in, whilst perfectly arranging out Instagram shot. Well, fear not pastry fanatics, Melba at The Savoy opens this week as the ninth food and beverage outlet at The Savoy Located directly on the Strand at the corner of Savoy Court, this gourmet counter will be open seven days a week and offer a selection of pastries, sandwiches and hot and cold beverages to take away, along with gift items and an extensive selection of a new Savoy signature éclairs (fancy).
The menu has been specifically engineered by executive pastry chef, Ludwig Hely, and the mouth-watering menu will include many afternoon delights (minds out of the gutter please) including, Comté and Black Forest ham croissant; apricot and almond Danish pastry; orange peel and dark chocolate pain au chocolat; jarred breakfasts; fruit salad and a selection of classic British sandwiches.
The stand out item on the menu will be Hely’s signature éclairs, which he has chosen in recognition of his French roots and probably also because they’re bloody tasty! You may have seen the nationwide ‘éclairs are for life, not just for Christmas’ adverts (slight possibility these only existed in my head), but Hely has taken this message to heart, ensuring that the éclairs will change seasonally and include flavours such as: passion fruit and milk chocolate; lychee, rose and raspberry and cherry and pistachio.
If you’ve got a passion for pomp and pastry, then it sounds like the new gourmet takeaway bar at Melba at The Savoy is the perfect destination for your next fix.
