Everyone loves snuggling up with a book and getting lost in a fantasy world. From 50 Shades to Great Expectations, there is nothing better than being engrossed in a book (preferably on a sunny beach, but we’ll settle for the living room sofa).
The Stafford London is taking things a step further for literature lovers with their monthly literary tea events, ‘Stafford Saturday Salons’ which will see various acclaimed authors talking about their latest books. This the perfect opportunity to go deeper than just the cover of your read and to also see if all your assumptions about the characters and the meaning of the text are correct, because you’re a totally legit literary scholar and you want your theories to be proved.
Schedule of Speakers:
25th July – BAFTA award-winning actress Rebecca Front will be talking about her literary debut, ‘Curious: True Stories and Everyday Oddities’
22nd August – Absolutely Fabulous actress, writer and comedian Helen Lederer will be telling us the background to her debut novel, ‘Losing It’, a comedy about a middle-aged woman’s increasingly crazed efforts to slim.
19th September – Journalist Olivia Williams will be taking us through her book ‘Gin Glorious Gin: How Mother’s Ruin Became the Spirit of London.’ As a keen London historian and even keener lover of gin, she charts gin’s eclectic journey through London since 1690.
3rd October – SJ Watson will be telling us the writing process behind his two bestselling novels, ‘Before I Go to Sleep’ and this year’s ‘Second Life.’
14th November – Ian Kelly will be telling us how he wrote the authorised biography of Dame Vivienne Westwood, documenting her career over five decades from punk activist to global fashion icon.
The Monthly Literary Saturday Tea Events are hosted by Liz Hoggard and include tea, coffee, cakes and a glass of prosecco at the end. Books, cake and booze? We couldn’t think of a better way to spend your Saturday!
