Hurrah for Wednesday and its Great British Bake Off goodness, week three otherwise known a bread week, who will rise to the challenge (yes we just went there) and who will crumble under the pressure? But it isn’t just about the advanced baking, oh no you need to be able to master and execute the basics perfectly to be in with a chance. And The Capital hotel are launching a new afternoon tea in celebration of the Great British Bake Off and the classic afternoon tea.

Starting on the 5th September they’ll be reviving English classics, it won’t be afternoon tea with a twist, nope it will be a straight up traditional afternoon tea. Egg and cress and ham and mustard sandwiches will be followed by scones with lashings of cream and jam and Victoria sponges, ice-cream sandwiches, Bakewell tarts and crumpets.

Of course being a celebration of all things English we’re hardly going to reject the offer to have a mid -afternoon drink are we? No we are not. So alongside your tea, have a Sipsmith London Dry Gin based cocktail, we’re wanting The Basil Street Spritz – blackcurrant, hibiscus, infused tea and Champagne.

Baker or not, at least we’re all afternoon tea eaters.

 Launching 5th September, available daily 2:30pm – 5pm.
