Stop what you’re doing, because we have some news that is going to brighten any Monday morning, next week is National Afternoon Tea Week and this Wednesday is the start of the Great British Bake Off …it’s like they planned it.

So what this means for you is that you legitimately have no excuse not to eat cake (it’s a hard life) and if you really want to celebrate then you should of course have afternoon tea. The National Theatre have recently launched a new tea that celebrates their most love shows. Things begin with a curtains up bellini, before two grand ‘acts’ and of course not forgetting an ice cream interval.

One man, two guv’nors has inspired the hummus, French bean and red pepper sandwich; A Taste of Honey is translated into a layer cake made with honey from the National Theatre’s own bee hives and The Cat in the Hat ‘Thing 1 and Thing 2’ sandwiches join baby scones, Birchall tea and Mozzo coffee.

The tea is available Tuesday to Sunday but if you go on a Friday or Sunday then you can get a sneak peek behind the scenes with a backstage tour – well, why not?
