Don’t despair that summer is almost over (it never really started anyway, let’s be honest) because we’ve got the perfect celebration to the start of autumn – The Bayou Banquet. Brought to you by the New Orleans inspired supper club, Slap Ya Papa, the two week festival will take over the Victorian railway arches, The Vaults to celebrate the launch of The Vaults Kitchen a new restaurant space.
New York and LA it’s all about healthy living, juices and quinoa, central America love their fried food (check out the food stalls at the recent Iowa State Fair) but in the deep South good old, warming, comfort food is the order of the day. It’s the feel good food that can put right a bad day, it’s soul food all served up with a side of jazz.
Running from 16th -27th September The Bayou Banquet will be two weeks of supper clubs, dancing, cocktails, art and a whole lot of jazz from the likes of Kansas Smitty, Errol Linton and Riot Jazz. Events include Tales from New Orleans, a supper club which will see Bryan Batt (you might have seen him in Mad Men, 12 Years a Slave) take to the stage for a cabaret evening, yep his crossed the pond just to sing whilst you eat – who feels fancy now? Dishes include pulled pork ‘durrrrty rice’ (sounds fabulous to us), cornbread and homemade pie just like ya mumma made it. We’re also looking to salvaging our Sundays and eating away the regrets of Saturday night at their all-day brunches, Eggs, Bacon, Grits, Sausage’ the name gives away the menu, but we’ll be washing it all down with Bourbon Bloody Marys because it’s Sunday and we can.
September you aren’t looking to bad now are you?
