Think vodka and you probably think Russia. In actual fact Poland is as much (if not more) a word that should spring to mind – the two countries have a long standing dispute about who invented the spirit. All you need to know is that Baltic on the Southbank are vodka experts, serving over 60 varieties, including home-infused, straight from the freezer, in frozen glasses to transport you somewhere a little colder this winter.
To celebrate a brand new bar at the venue, Head Chef Piotr Fortuna has come up with a menu inspired by his Polish roots. A Hunter’s venison, beef and sausage stew, braised lamb shoulder with okra and fresh herring fried with lingonberries will bring a taste of these snowy regions to the Southbank when they launch the new bar on Wednesday 28th October. An ostrich-covered wall and dim amber lighting lead the makeover and promise a sophisticated backdrop to vodka-filled demijohns lining the bar. Forecasters are predicting our coldest winter in 5 years and if they are right, what better way to keep your energy levels up than hearty stews and warming wódka.
