Best meal of the year? Christmas lunch… obviously. The roast potatoes, the turkey, the pigs in blankets, the fact that you are able to eat so much and no one looks at you in disgust.

But what if we were to tell you there was another way? What if we were to tell you that this year the InterContinental Park Lane are reimagining the traditional Christmas lunch in the form of afternoon tea – two of our favourite things.

Launching on the 22nd November Christmas Unwrapped, which is served in the Wellington Lounge, uses the key ingredients, scents and flavours of Christmas lunch to create their tea. It’ll start with warm stilton, chestnut and walnut vol-au-vents and honey roast root vegetable pie before moving on to open sandwiches, which will include salmon, prawn, turkey and sage and pigs in blankets.

Scones will be flavoured with Christmas spice and orange peel and served with clotted cream, jam and orange liquor curd – because is that part of Christmas, sneaking alcohol into everything? To finish you’ll be presented with a wrapped Christmas present, take off the lid and you’ll find a plum pudding mousse, a mini Christmas cake, yule log and spiced apple pie.

It really will be a happy Christmas!

The Christmas Unwrapped Afternoon Tea will be available from the 22nd November 2015 – 3rd January 2016.
