Whether we like to admit it or not, listening to “I Can’t Make You Love Me” after a break up may trigger a little tear. OK, fine, many tears. Music can make you feel many things but we’ve got to say you’d be a little weird to admit it has ever made you laugh. If you think about it, comedy and music would really be quite a good pairing. Throw a glamorous hotel bar into the mix and you have yourself Comedy Notes at Scarfes Bar; the first musical comedy night in the UK hosted and founded by TV comedienne Joy Carter.
Joy spent years performing in dungarees so she wouldn’t stand out too much from the white males dominating the circuit but after a steady increase in gigs and more recently a resoundingly successful debut at the Edinburgh Fringe (where Michael McIntryre first ‘made it’) she is hosting the event to once again change people’s perceptions of what comedy is.
On the second Sunday of every month from now until January, Joy will welcome to the stage a range of comedians including multi-award winning classical conductor and musician, Rainer Hersch. Pack the tissues, you will be crying with laughter.
Scarfes Bar, Rosewood London, High Holborn, WC1V 7EN. 11th October, 8th November, 13th December, 10th January
