Ever fancied living in another era? A time when gentlemen courted ladies at balls; when technology didn’t dictate our every move or when political unrest resulted in freedom and liberation. Although you don’t notice it at the time, insignificant daily changes contribute to those sudden realisations of ‘Oh My God! That was TEN years ago?’ or ‘I can’t believe I wore that!’.
The Apartment at The Hoxton Hotel is hosting a really unique one-off (two-part) immersive event in November. 100 years will be condensed into ten hours over two days, with each hour dedicated to a specific decade, for example 10.30-11.30am on Saturday 7th is 1900s, 11.45-12.45pm is 1910s etc, all the way up to the 1990s and the turn of the millennium.
Each decade hosts special guests, from authors to academics, scientists to historians for a kind of history meets culture lesson about these influential byegone eras we probably don’t know that much about beyond what year 9 history or Downton Abbey has taught us. We are particularly excited about Mark Chapkins, inventor-in-residence at the Science Museum talking about 1900s technology and hosts Odette Toilette who will be talking through the Top 10 Saturday Night Scents to bring memories back of crimped hair and crop tops. If that’s not enough there is a free cocktail with every ticket.
1900s – 1940s 10am – 5pm Saturday 7th, 1950s – 1990s 10am – 5pm 14th November at The Apartment at The Hoxton, 81 Great Eastern St, Shoreditch EC2A 3HU
