When a summer activity adapts for winter it usually involves moving it indoors, or perhaps adding a few heaters outside but some events really are better left to the warmer months. Rooftop cinemas don’t quite appeal so much when being attacked by an arctic breeze and clutching at blankets, but equally, bringing this inside pretty much constitutes a normal cinema. The people behind Rooftop Film Club are taking their popular pop-up film club underground for the colder months, to be held in the Vaults at Waterloo.
Well below the bustle of one of London’s busiest train stations, the Vaults play host to a range of pop-up events and supper clubs but following their sold-out success last year the film club will show a range of much-loved classics and highly anticipated new releases. Looking over the schedule, the standout showings for us include a pre-recorded performance of Benedict Cumberbatch’s ‘Hamlet’ at the National Theatre (finally a way in!) as well as a special 20th anniversary celebration of the release of Toy Story with a Pixar movie marathon.
Push the jumbo popcorn and coke meal deal to one side; street food is being served by the head chef of Hawksmoor and cocktails from connoisseurs Spirited Mixers.
Tickets on sale now. Open five nights a week at The Vaults, Launcelot Street, Waterloo, SE11 7AD
