There’s something so appealing about food shopping on holiday. Exploring a little corner of Italy after a morning lazing by the pool, when the heat gets a bit much to handle. Shelves stacked with intriguing jars and boxes, cured meats hanging from the ceiling and overflowing deli counters with bowls of olives, pastries and cheeses. Sadly these things never seem to travel well; cheese plus 32 degree temperatures equals… yeah, not good.
With this in mind it is always exciting to discover a new deli in London, a taste of summer in our own homes. Capricci is a new Italian deli and restaurant bringing this excitement to NeoBankside, the award-winning development of luxury apartments and restaurants just near the Tate Modern. The shop itself will stock over 500 products – cheeses from Romagna, olive oils from Lake Garda and biscuits specially made in Venice so you can take a taste of Italy home with you (Christmas presents anyone?), but if your idea of cooking consists of hacking at a cheeseboard then leave the cooking to the pros and either dine in or buy a ready meal to take home with you. The menu is inspired by classic Italian kitchen cooking and designed by Michelin starred Davide Palluda. Coffee promises to be top notch too so there are plenty of reasons to pay them a visit once they open next week.
Capricci opens 2nd November at NeoBankside, 72 Holland Street, Unit C (South), London SE1 9NX
