Back in the 1800s there was a London destination which housed debates, secret meetings and debaucherous evenings, as well as what was widely considered to be the greatest wine cellar in the world. Jump forward 150 years and this institution is still going strong. Hotel Cafe Royal is celebrating their big birthday with a night of eclectic entertainment and a glitzy dinner with Europe’s top showgirl, Immodesty Blaize.
Crowned as the Reigning Queen of Burlesque in Las Vegas, Immodesty Blaize (aka British born Kelly Fletcher) knows a thing or two about putting on a show, having performed for Dior, Cartier and Prince Albert of Monaco. The night promises a sophisticated fusion of burlesque, opera and live jazz as well as tap dancers and cabaret acts and, because it’s a five star hotel, Hotel Cafe Royal are putting on a lavish spread for their guests. Champagne, canapes, truffle vol au vents and Cornish crab will kick off the sit down dinner, inspired by the land and the sea; caviar, lobster, sashimi and smoked salmon on the fishy-front and Castle of Mey Queens Estate rib of beef (grand) with cepes (mushrooms) and ‘hay baked roots’. The food sounds incredible but it is the performances that will be the star of the show. A celebration fit for the status of former guests Brigitte Bardot, Virginia Woolf, Arthur Conan Doyle and Winston Churchill amongst others – count us in.
La Nuit de la Diva is on 7th November at Hotel Cafe Royal, 68 Regent Street, W1B 4DY
