Our 2 favourite things have collided: brunch and supper clubs. Milk in Balham has long been a reason in itself to head to the neighbourhood, the exposed brick walls, neon lighting and obviously the damn good food reason enough to head to SW12. This summer they expanded in size to cater to the queues of hungry/hungover Londoners craving a cappuccino and bursting for a benedict. This obviously wasn’t enough – not only do we want milk for breakfast we clearly want it for supper too.
For two nights at the end of November, Milk are opening their doors after sundown for the first in a series of Milk Lates supper clubs, and because it is an evening affair, drinking is acceptable. The founders Julian Porter and Lauren Johns have worked with a sommelier to compile a wine list which not only compliments their food but are also created using biodynamic farming practices. As much as we love brunch food it will be nice to see what else they can cook up – the menu includes crystal fried pigeon with blackcurrant salt and cured trout, hazelnut milk (!) and apple – well, they had to include milk somewhere. The menu embraces local ingredients and producers, staying true to their values.
