If our birthday falls midweek we can justify going for dinner with close friends on the night and then, come the weekend, drinks and a night out with the extended friendship group. If you’re the Queen you also have two celebrations; her actual birthday on 21st April and her official birthday in June. They have royalty in their name so it comes at no surprise that Café Royal are celebrating their 150th anniversary with a whole series of glitzy events.
For one night only, specially selected members of the Royal Marines will jump in a specially built ring for a charity boxing night. We’ve never quite worked out why watching boxers have their noses bashed attracts such glamourous audiences (Boodles, anyone?) but we can see the appeal here – Muhammed Ali was a former frequent visitor to black tie dinners here. Tables set up around the ring provides guests with food, drinks, silent and live auctions as well as VIP guests in attendance. If being so close you can smell the sweat is a bit too involved for you, head up to The Club’s Gallery above the restaurant and enjoy the action from a higher viewpoint.
The evening is raising money for the Royal Marines Charity so is a great way to celebrate a landmark anniversary, raise money for a great cause and spend a night in glamorous and historic surroundings.
The Royal Marine Boxing Bout is at Hotel Café Royal, 68 Regent Street, London W1B 4DY
Tickets for the upper viewing area cost £150 including drinks and bowl food by contacting email@example.com or calling 020 7406 7105. Event from 8pm, with a silent and live auction, and the boxing bouts running between 10pm and 11pm.
