Percy & Founders is one of those venues where you feel equally as welcome hunkered down with a coffee and your laptop as you do with a post-work glass of Pinot Noir, but frankly we know which we prefer. As we approach the middle of January, the worst is very nearly over. From now on there is light at the end of the tunnel and it is downhill to February… and our first glass of wine in four weeks. The strictest Dry January participants may want to look away now – we have a suggestion that may make you reconsider remaining teetotal the full 31 days.

On the 27th January, Fitzrovia restaurant Percy & Founders are hosting a wine and canapé tasting evening to celebrate the Burgundy en Primeur season. For non-experts, ‘en Primeur’ is used in the trade to refer to wine sold before it is bottled, to then be delivered at a future date. For Burgundies this happens in the January two years after the harvest and the wine is then shipped to the UK the following Spring but thankfully for us we don’t have to wait. Giles Burke-Gaffney, buying director of fine wine merchants Justerini & Brooks, is the expert on hand to guide you through the evening, one glass at a time. Wines will be paired with canapés created especially for the event by Executive Chef Diego Cardoso (former Head Chef of Angela Hartnett’s Murano). The (imminent) end of Dry January? We’ll drink to that.

Wednesday 27th January from 7-9pm at Percy & Founders, 1 Pearson Square, Fitzrovia, W1T 3BF
