The other day we asked people to say the first thing that came into their head when we said ‘quintessentially British’. Answers include rain, fish and chips, festivals, Shakespeare and cricket, but the two answers that people said the most were afternoon tea and the Queen.

And since everyone needs cake on their birthday, The InterContinental Park Lane have created a special afternoon to mark The Queen’s 90th birthday. They also happen to be the official Hotel of The Patron’s Lunch which is taking place this Sunday. So they’ve teamed up with fellow event partner and also iconic British brand Pimm’s to produce the Royal-Tea served in the Wellington Lounge.

Served until the end of June, the Royal – Tea starts with sandwiches including Coronation chicken, honey roast ham and English mustard and hen egg with carrot bread before moving onto buttermilk scones with clotted cream followed by cakes and mini-puddings inspired by The Queen. The Queen’s Hat comes as a Tipsy cake, The Queen’s Crown is a Victoria sponge with vanilla mousse and strawberry jelly and The Queen’s Summer Garden Party is a Champagne and gooseberry fool.

You can add unlimited Moët et Chandon or Veuve Cliquot too, well it’s is a party after all.

The Royal Tea is served daily 1pm – 5pm in the Wellington Lounge at the InterContinental Park Lane
