There’s something about eating sweets that have us reminiscing about our childhoods. Sherbet fountains remind you of party bags? Strawberry laces have you dreaming of midnight feasts? Conrad London St. James feel the same and they are bringing that feeling back with a bang in the grown up form of afternoon tea.
The Conrad Candy Shop afternoon tea sees bubblegum macaroons, lemon sherbet meringue pie and pesto chicken cones all presented on a box filled with the ultimate childhood treat, hundreds and thousands. Seriously, what ice cream was complete without sprinkles and a flake? Sandwich fillings include smoked salmon and creme fraiche, roast beef and mustard mayo and avocado with roasted red peppers but it is the cakes where Executive Pastry Chef, Zoe Wagner looks like she’s had the most fun; a pink bubblegum macaroon sits on a strawberry and cream panna cotta and a blue raspberry mousse is delicately dotted with yet more sweets.
The tea takes place in the hotel’s civilised Emmeline lounge, named after Emmeline Pankhurst, and guests will get to enjoy the relaxing sounds of a live harpist playing familiar songs. 50 Cent Candy Shop maybe? Maybe not quite the type of throwback they’re going for.
