Meat. Beer. Drink. Fire. Yeah, meat and beer, that’s right Meatopia is back for the fourth year in London and there is some rather exciting news. The weekend long affair is now starting on Friday night (2nd September) with a ‘Late Shift’ and there are still tickets.
Kicking off the weekend, the Friday night offering will begin with DJ sets from Professor Green, Andy Smith (Portishead), MC Zani and Bass 6, DJ Tofu and Temple Funk Collective. Across the weekend you’ll also be able to see sets from Norman Jay MBE and Jazzy B (Soul II Soul). Of course though music is just a side dish to the main course: meat.
Three more chefs have just been added to the line-up which already includes the likes of Selin Kiazim (Oklava), Neil Rankin (Temper), Tom Adams (Pitt Cue) and Richard H Turner (Hawksmoor). They are Angie Mar (Beatrice Inn, New York) who is known for her Secret Burger – if you fancy yourself a bit of a burger connoisseur then you won’t want to miss seeing her; Luke Holder (Lime Wood, New Forest) who is at the forefront of British charcuterie and Andre Lima de Luca (BOS BBQ, Sao Paulo) the legendary pit master.
Throughout the weekend there will be a series of demonstrations over on The Cutting Stage hosted by Christian Stevenson, including Francis Mallman on Friday night and Nick Weston who will be butchering different British deer. Master Butcher Marco Peerderman will return to host the Turner & George butchery masterclasses and then you need to head to Craftopia. Nope it’s not the arts and crafts tent it’s the beer tent. There’ll be beer pairings, hoppy demos and talks by small brewers and emerging brands such as Big Hug and Beavertown which have been curated by sommALEier Melissa Cole. Lucky Meatopians will also be able to take part in The Big Green Egg Steak Out where you can try meats cooked on the Big Green Egg and pick up tips from the chef.
Beer, meat, music – surely what weekends are made of?
Meatopia is taking place 2nd -4th September 2016 at London’s Tobacco Dock. Tickets have sold out for Saturday but you can still get your hands on tickets for Friday and Sunday.
