What do St Katherine Docks and HMS Belfast have in common? Besides the obvious watery locations, they are both home to Tom’s Kitchen restaurants and, to celebrate September’s Totally Thames festival, chef Tom Aikens is hosting a special dinner the night the festival launches.
Totally Thames is a celebration of the vibrant and historic River Thames, more specifically the 42 mile stretch through London being celebrated throughout September. Although it’s home to over 25 species of fish, we can tell you in good authority that Tom’s fish comes from much clearer waters and that actually there is no fish on the menu for his 4-course dinner. Instead, guests will be served Devonshire crab with gazpacho to start followed by blackened chicken breast, leg boudin, girolles mushrooms and truffle jus. For dessert, an apple and vanilla panna cotta with caramel parfait and apple jelly is on the cards before a cheese course rounds the evening off. Matching wines from Portugal and Italy accompany each dish and drinks will be served on arrival. During the meal, Peter Werth’s Jazz Crew will provide civilised sounds to sway to, as if dining by the river isn’t civilised enough already. Be sure to book your place in advance as well as checking out the other 149 events taking place throughout September – everything from floating lanterns to maritime lectures.
