The Handbook

Bars and brunches, two of our favourite things. An evening at the former inevitably leads to the requirement of the latter and now both can be found at Smith & Wollensky as they have just launched their new bar and are set to launch their new brunch this weekend.

Found on the lower ground floor of the restaurant, the Adelphi bar will be open from 5pm throughout the week and on Saturday, which means if you only have time for a cocktail or a pre-theatre bite then you can still pew up a stool at the bar. There’s a 40 strong wine list, but we say go for one of their cocktails. We’re big fans of The Old Timer a mix of Bulleit Bourbon, Old Timer syrup and bitters and the Popcorn Sazerac, which as the name suggests tastes rather like popcorn, made from Bulleit Rye Whisky, Peychaud’s Bitters, absinthe, sugar syrup.  To go with the drinks, they’ve created a series of bar snacks which includes USDA prime beef jerky, mini hot dogs with smoked cheese, seared chilli and garlic shrimp, USDA prime beef sliders. Take it from us, you don’t want to miss these. We definitely ate far too many on a recent visit.

Launching this weekend is their American style brunch which has just about everything you could imagine. Want something sweet, then they have cinnamon French toast or pancakes, fancy something meaty have the Wollensky’s butcher’s burger, maple sausages and mixed spice beans or a steak. There are eggs done 12 ways, salads, sandwiches and nine different Bloody Mary’s to choose from which range from the Bloody Shame (their take on a Virgin Mary) and the Danger! Danger! High Voltage – quite possibly the hottest Bloody Mary in London, which will definitely kick the hangover out of you. It’s made with vodka that is infused with Scotch Bonnet Chillies – it’s served with a shot of coconut milk, don’t say we didn’t warn you.

So that’s your Friday and Saturday sorted then.
