Hygge! What, right? Pronounced ‘hoo-ga’, (we’re channeling Al Pacino when we say it, you should too), hygge is a Nordic term that is going to make you want to leave your loved ones with immediate effect and make off on a one way journey to Scandinavia. Hygge is essentially an idea/philosophy/tradition which roughly translates as cosiness, and implies warmth, conviviality and kinship, which Scandinavian countries have adopted as a way of life. Not only is it an endearing notion, but an alluring one, so to encourage and aid you in adapting this outlook to your life The London Edition is hosting ‘A Weekend of Hygge’.
The luxury boutique hotel, along with Signe Johansen, Norwegian cook and author of ‘How to Hygge’, are laying on a programme of events that will guide you through taking pleasure in the simple things in life. The journey commences with a yoga morning with Secret Yoga Club focussing on mindfulness and wellbeing. Prudes will want to stay clear of the next activity which embraces the Nordic love of nudity, naturism and art with a two-hour tutored life drawing class.
Bare flesh is not necessary for the evening offering, which will be a special screening of Love Is All You Need with an introduction from Signe Johansen. Things turn to food the next morning with a Fika Coffee Morning from Scandinavian Kitchen and Snaps & Rye, followed by Hygge in the Home; an exploration of Scandinavian design with Signe Johansen, Magnus Englund of Scandium and Sally Bendelow, creative product director at notonthehighstreet.com.
What better way to end the weekend than with music and drink? Settle in to The London Edition’s fumed oak drinking den and get your taste buds around a signature punch cocktail and you ears round Finnish music sensation Suad.
Thanks to The London Edition, you may not have to say farewell to friends and family just yet.
A Weekend Of Hygge will be taking place from the 22nd – 23rd October.
