Think Christmas foods you think turkey, sprouts, mince pie, Christmas puddings – one of the best but perhaps one of the most underrated? The panettone. It’s sweet, it’s light, it tastes just like Christmas – it’s everything you could want.
So, chef-owner Jacob Kenedy (VICO, Bocca di Lupo and Gelupo) is making the humble panettone the star attraction at Vico with his ‘Panettone, Gelato and Winter Warmer Bar’ – which you can also read as ‘Decadence overload, bring your eating pants’ because – trust us, this is one is pure comfort food. There are four puddings to choose from. Keep it classic with a panettone stuffed with two scoops of gelato; get dipping your pandoro in three sauces; go simple with the Panmarenda – a mini panettone or gelato with a glass of milk and stay slightly tipsy with the Drunken Panettone – a mini panettone steeped in vinsanto and passito and topped with towers of whipped cream. How you choose which one to have is up to you…it’s hard a decision, we’re not going to pretend it isn’t.
Of course, you’ll need something to drink, luckily, they’ve come up with winter specials to match with each one. With the Drunken Panettone, you won’t need more alcohol but you could do with some more cream, which is why the suggest it goes with the hot chocolate topped with cream. Other drinks include the Caffee Speciale, an espresso injected with amaretto and chocolate and the Vin Brulee – an Italian mulled wine.
The menu is sticking around until January and you can either just drop in for some pudding or order one as pudding – you’ll find the space.
The Panettone, Gelato and Winter Warmer Bar is available until January at Vico.
