Barry Tonks, Head Chef of Searcys The Gherkin and personal trainer/all round health guru Clean Eating Alice. A likely combination? Definitely not, but believe it or not, they’ve teamed up to create a 6 week wellness menu. Wellness? Maybe not exactly… the menu is split in two, with one half titled ‘Saint’ the other half titled ‘Sinner’; we’re sure you can figure out who is responsible for each half.
If you’re feeling saintly, try the ginger venison with miso-glazed parsnip fries, or the super seed loaf with smoked salmon and minted yoghurt. Or if, like us, you’re quite the sinner – try the slow braised ox-cheek with foie gras and truffles; or the butter roasted halibut with scallop and octopus daubé, sweet potato and kale. Sweet-toothed saints may end the meal with cocoa and chia energy balls with vanilla ice cream and 70% chocolate; or the maple syrup French toast with Greek yoghurt and blueberry chia jam. Sinners, indulge in the apple tart tartan with vanilla ice cream – it’s available to share for up to 4 people but hopefully we won’t get judged when we order a sharing portion just for ourselves…
You can’t visit Searcys and not sample the various sparkling reds and whites that are on offer. Ok sure, drinking is sinning, but we can definitely let that slide since there’s skinny fizz Cava, low sulphite rose Riseling and organic Pinot Noir on offer. But if you’re the saintliest of saints, there’re also smoothies on offer. Full of goodness.
Saints and sinners alike are welcome to take part in the HIIT classes, conducted by Alice herself on the top floor of the Gherkin. HIIT has been deemed one of the most effective exercises so don’t worry if you’ve sinned a little too much. Being on the top floor of the Gherkin, you’ll have spectacular 360 degree views of London – something to distract you from that intense burn perhaps.
Saint or sinner; either way, you can’t say you’re not tempted.
The Saints and Sinners menu is available at Searcys The Gherkin for six weeks
