The Modern Pantry have poached award-winning mixologist Ryan Chetiyawardana (Mr Lyan Group) for their latest venture, The Alpha Beta Bar, named so because of the building it’s housed in – The Alphabeta building, Finsbury Square.
The restaurant’s menu makes use of global ingredients to produce bold and punchy flavours and, much in the same way, the new drinks menu makes use of exotic ingredients and lesser-known spirits, to produce exceptional drinks that perfectly pair with all the bar snacks on offer. Imbibe a Firecracker Fizz – whisky with lemon, apricot and chilli sherbet, and soda; or a Sgroppino G&T – cream gin with strawberry and cardomom sorbet, with grapefruit and tonic; or a Dominican Daquiri – rum with raspberry pasts, Pineau de Charentes and yuzu. Yep, these are no ordinary drinks.
It really is an enjoyable treat to watch your cocktail being made; the theatre shaking and stirring is like no other and the 18-seater U-shaped bar at the front of the restaurant gives you a perfect seat for that show.
To complement your cocktails, enjoy a range of dishes, including Head Chef Anna Hansen’s signature sugar-cured prawn omelette with smoked chilli sambal. The menu also boasts Cornish crab rarebit donut with squid ink and Urfa chilli salt; pan fried manouri with chamomile prune and confit shallot; and grilled octopus with liquorice and macadamia pesto. Again, no ordinary flavours.
These alpha cocktails are sure to be beta than any you’ve had before. Sorry…
The Alpha Beta bar launches Monday 16th January, 12pm till late at The Modern Pantry, Finsbury Square
