You may have heard about VAULT Festival, London’s answer to the Edinburgh Fringe. They’ve taken over the tunnels beneath Waterloo station, with full days of comedy and music and they’re also running a series of night-time-adult-only events, known as VAULT Lates.
To kick off the series, VAULT have teamed up with Time Out for their ‘Time Out presents: I’m Coming Out’ party. It’ll be a grand way to kick off the year, or put an end to dry January, with a DJ set from Time Out’s very own Oliver Keeney (music and nightlife editor), a midnight runway, and a photo booth to capture moments of the glittering disco.
If your tastes are a little darker and you want more than a glittering disco, there is the UK debut of TROUGH. The TROUGH parties, run by international promoter Nik Dimopoulous, create debaucherous dens where rules don’t matter – certainly not for the straight-laced amongst us. The event brings the hedonism of elusive Berlin club Berghain, with the club’s resident DJ, Boris, headlining.
Alternatively, you can immerse yourself in the greatest part of The Great Gatsby, i.e. Jay Gatsby’s party. The enthralling party will see headline performances from swinging jazz band Holy Moly & The Crackers, and performances from acrobat Zac Smith, Burlesque dancer Peggy de Lune and magician John Bullied. Pack your dancing shoes because you’ll be dancing the Charleston, and probably with a cocktail in hand (after a visit to any of the 5 bars). The secret passageways and dark corners add to the thrill and surprise, evoking the parties of the novels.
Otherwise, there is plenty for those looking into the distant Sci-Fi future, with Galactic Love, which will be all things cosmic love – it is happening in Valentine’s Week after all. There’s also, later in the schedule, the SciFilent Disco, which will give you three channels of the best space-themed tunes, with prizes for the best Cosplay costumes.
If you’re looking for something more colourful, VAULT Festival will be bringing the Mardi Gras to you with their Fat Tuesday party, which will see a carnival style parade along the Thames. There’ll also be a House of Burlesque Lock In… we’re sure you can probably guess what that entails.
To round off the VAULT party season, Time Out will be returning with another version of ‘Time Out presents: I’m Coming Out’. Peggy de Lune will be back for the final blow out event; scandal and shamelessness galore.
VAULT festival has a line up of Lates parties every weekend from 27th January until 4th March
