If like us, you can regularly be found spending your weekends exploring London’s food markets, you may be familiar with little Alfie, the bright yellow 1970’s ice cream van selling the best grilled cheese sandwiches in London…it’s The Cheese Bar.
Let us put a big cheesy smile on that face of yours by telling you that The Cheese Bar is set to open the doors to its first permanent restaurant in the historic Camden Stable Market (we told you about it here back in December). To celebrate their upcoming permanent restaurant, the king of grilled cheese Mathew Carver has teamed up with local Camden charities to hold a “sandwich amnesty” from noon on March 2nd. You simply hand over your unopened supermarket bought sandwich to be upgraded for a gooey cheesy toastie. At the end of the day, the donated sandwiches will be distributed to soup and street kitchens around Camden. The sandwich amnesty is there for one day and we repeat, one day only, so get that sharpie out and circle the date on your calendar.
Following the sandwich amnesty, The Cheese Bar wants to give you a sneak peek at their menu from their takeaway hatch between the 4th March and the 22nd of March ahead of their opening on the 23rd of March. Now the tough decision is what toastie do you go for? You can pretend that it’s Christmas again by going for their festival staple of Cropwell Bishop stilton with bacon and pear chutney or maybe venture out to try the new additions including the Queso Fundido, think fondue with a sprinkle of Mexico. You will never be cheesed off when visiting The Cheese Bar.
The sandwich amnesty will run from noon on 2nd March and The Cheese Bar has its grand opening on the 22nd March
