Think back five years ago, could you name a Peruvian restaurant in London? We struggled to think of one. If Londoners wanted to experience authentic Peruvian food and drinks they would probably have had to pack their bags, head to Heathrow and endure a 14-hour flight. That all changed when Peruvian chef Martin Morales opened the doors to Ceviche Soho, introducing a diverse range of flavours such as Nikkei, Criollo, Chifa and Amazonian to the capital.
Five years on, Ceviche Soho is still whetting the appetite of hundreds of Londoners with their menu and not to forget those pisco sours… So, it’s only right that they throw a celebration to mark their 5th birthday. Martin Morales will be inviting some of London’s top chefs to participate in a Ceviche Challenge. Gizzi Erskine, Ben Tish from the Salt Yard, Mark Jarvis, Head Chef at Anglo will all be there, putting their own twist on ceviche, a national dish of Peru. The chefs will also be joined by Anna Hansen, founder of the Modern Pantry, Selin Kiazim expert in Turkish and Cypriot cooking and founder of Shoreditch’s Oklava, Bonny Porter, co-founder of Balls & Company in Soho and Neil Rankin, all-round BBQ maestro and founder of Temper. Quite the line up.
Guests can expect a night of Lima meets London, with tasting spoons of guest ceviche to sample and of course, some of Ceviche main dishes including confit duck legs with coriander, sides including cassava chips or quinoa salad and dessert…and maybe a pisco sour or two at the pisco bar. Guests will also be asked to pick their guest chef winner from the night, we think it will be a pretty hard decision but to make things a little easier, all the guest ceviches will be on the menu for the next five weeks so you can get your fix once again.
Ceviche Soho 5th Birthday with London’s top chefs will be held at Ceviche Soho on 16th March
