DIY Smores, Table Top Barbecuing and Spanish Gin Cocktails

Southbank is getting a summer pop-up. We’ve seen the urban beach, the roller disco and the helter skelter but this time around there’s a foodie focus as pop-up king, Jimmy Garcia launches The BBQ Club.

A walk-up BBQ bar means you can saunter along the river, Aberdeen Angus steak burger in hand, but for the real experience you’ll want to head upstairs to the rooftop dining area. A 6-course tasting menu will be prepared for guests by their very own chef at a Big Green Egg grill (aka the ultimate piece of BBQ equipment) resembling a kind of intimate supper club. Dishes include hand-dived Dorset scallop with coal-baked cauliflower and a succulent lamb cutlet with salsa verde – no sausages and ketchup here.

The fun continues after the sun has set, when guests can make their own smores on the embers of their table-top, topping their toasted marshmallow with biscuits and melted chocolate. A rooftop bar will see Spanish gins, 10 pint beer kegs for the table and wine labelled simply ‘good’ or ‘great’ and the bar operates on an honesty policy so get in the summer spirit and embrace good karma.
