Outdoor cinemas are all the rage at the moment, whether on rooftop or in a park, it’s the activity to during the summer, rain or shine (you can always reach for the plastic ponchos…). Just when you thought you’d seen it all, a new competitor is popping-up over at St Katharine Dock’s: the floating cinema. A 12 seat barge was once a dishevelled boat but has been completely transformed to accommodate film junkies throughout July as they indulge in water-related classic films whilst bobbing on the Thames – think Finding Nemo, The Beach and The Little Mermaid.
For those who enjoy bringing snacks to the big screen – that’s everyone then – award-winning restaurant Tom’s Kitchen Deli have teamed up with The Floating Cinema to cater moviegoers with freshly prepared picnics to take on board. Popular for their British snacks and comfort food, the team behind Tom’s Kitchen have crafted baskets which can be shared between two or four people. The picnics include fresh juices, homemade sandwiches or baguettes, crisps or popcorn and flapjacks or brownies to end on a sweet note. Bottles of prosecco or Champagne can also be added to give a bit of class as you enjoy your favourite throwbacks. Drinks, food and cinema all on one boat?! It certainly beats a Netflix marathon.
The Floating Cinema runs from 17th-30th July at St Katharine Dock. Tom’s Kitchen Deli picnics must be ordered at least 24 hours before.
