Wine. Red, white, Pinot, Sauvignon, we’re not particularly fussy and to be honest there’s a limit to our fermented grape expertise but when Thirsty Thursday calls you’ll find us at the bar, wine glass in hand.
This week, London will be awash with bottles of the good stuff, as the UK’s biggest celebration of wine returns: it’s London Wine Week. Aimed at all standards of wine lover, from novice to pro, the week will see an action-packed programme of everything from tastings (of course) to masterclasses, brunches, dinners, pop-ups and parties, with a whole host of restaurants and bars hopping on the bandwagon to offer their own unofficial take on wine-related events.
Although the festival is taking place at venues across the city, Devonshire Square will play the part of central ‘hub’ from Monday to Friday. Pop-up wine bars mean you can sip your way around France, Argentina and beyond, improving your palate and learning tips from the experts along the way. Over in Hackney, a giant wine garden-come-mini-vineyard will pop-up for three days so you can at least pretend you’re in the Loire Valley as you sip your vintage and graze on cheese. Go a little more New World at the venue’s Rogue Terrace, which will bring a taste of the laid-back Aussie lifestyle to East London with a little help from The Modern Pantry and DJs spinning old school soul, funk and disco.
Elsewhere there’s really too much for us to describe everything but, to give you an idea, you’ll find an English sparkling wine masterclass in a wine cellar in Mayfair and a wine-fuelled brunch on the mezzanine at Sager + Wilde.
Get looking and get booking then you can finally drink up.
London Wine Week is taking place 5th-11th June across London
