If we told you it was possible to eat cheese, and a lot of it, for charity, would you believe us? Probably not. Well, you’d better believe it because this September Mathew Carver, founder of the beloved Cheese Bar, will be honouring the grilled cheese in aid of Help Refugees UK.
Mathew’s invited 5 chefs from some of London’s favourite restaurants to put their signature stamp on the grilled cheese, each competing against each other for a chance to be crowned the grilled cheese champion.
The competitors will be Josh Katz and Mattia Bianchi from Berber & Q, Harneet Baweja of Gunpowder, Tom Browne from Decatur, James & Thom, founders of Pizza Pilgrims and Tomasz Baranski, Head Chef of El Pastor. Competitors have been given free reign, with the only rule being that the cheese must be British, but already, we can imagine there’s going to be some pretty spectacular grilled cheeses.
So, not only do you get to try what will be some of the most inventive and delicious grilled cheeses you’ve ever had, but you’ll be raising awareness and raising funds to aid the European refugee crisis, as proceeds from the event will be donated to the charity.
Cheese never tasted so gouda. Sorry, we had to.
