You might not have heard of John Morrissey, 19th century boxer, politician and gang member. You’ve probably heard of his gang though, The Dead Rabbits. Yep, Sean Muldoon and Jack McGarry’s award-wining New York bar, The Dead Rabbit, is named after a notorious, Irish street gang that controlled much of Lower Manhattan in the mid-19th century – apparently robbing and brawling was their thing.
Enough of the history lesson, what you need to know is that the bar, that has won ‘World’s Best Bar’, is coming to Mayfair for one week in August. Opening in Claridge’s, The Dead Rabbit pop-up will recreate the second floor ‘Parlor’ with all the essential elements – the ragtime piano playing, the welcome drink, New York style service and comic book cocktail menu.
It’ll serve up many of the innovative signature cocktails including their renowned Irish Coffee, the Pirate Queen, Goody Two Shoes and contemporary classic, Psycho Killer -we expect supposed gang member Hell-Cat Maggie, might have liked that one. To eat you’ll find lobster devilled eggs, Cumberland sausage rolls and The Irish lamb stew. It’s Manhattan meets Mayfair.
The Dead Rabbit pop-up at Claridge’s takes place from 15th – 22nd August
