The Beach Boys may have round-round-got-around-they-got-around, but they probably didn’t expect that it’d be taken quite so literally at Old Street roundabout. Magic Roundabout returns to the centre of the Old Street roundabout tomorrow and brings the vibes of 60s uber-festival Woodstock to Shoreditch.
And its not only the 60s, each decade from the swinging 60s to the 1990s will be represented in separate areas, starting with a Magic Roundabout interpretation of flower-power at Woodstock and a seazy-but-sexy 1970s Playboy lounge, of course replete with sheepskins and a log fire. The main bar will pay homage to the 80s with a full-on disco sporting futuristic art and palm trees, while for the VIPier guests the VIP area will channel the Fresh Prince with 1990s colour palate and crazy patterns! We’re not sure what’s hit us just reading that back, so tomorrow’s launch party is sure to be an assault to the sensations, and only in a good way.
The venue, which is also open for private hire, will be seeing the launch of barbequeist etraordinarire Rosalind Chick’s Smokin’ Lotus. The BBQ joint has already made a name for itself in its short two year life, being voted 42 in Time Out’s top 50 street traders this year. The ingredients are all smoked at Rosalind’s home-built smokehouse producing the most delicious creations including her famous 11 hour slow smoked beef brisket with hoisin sauce and Japanese-style creamy potato salad mash.
You can experience Chick’s creations at the launch party tomorrow evening. The winter launch will see the unveiling of the new-look venue and guests will be ablje to sample complimentary food and drinks as well as enjoying live entertainment from DJs, performers, even a glitter makeup artist (good luck getting that off in time for work on Friday).
If you can’t make the launch then Magic Roundabout will be hosting a plethora of events over the autumn, so put on your best mohair, flared, shoulder-padded shell suit and rock your way through the ages.
Magic Roundabout reopens on Thursday 19th October, for launch party tickets email firstname.lastname@example.org
