Thanksgiving in London

Thanksgiving, a time to give thanks, look back at history, get together with friends and family and practise for Christmas by eating a whole lot of food. So if you’re away from your family in America or just want to join in, here are 10 all American menus you’ll find in London this year:

Covent Garden Hotel 

How else to celebrate Thanksgiving than with an all-American feast? Good thing then that Brasserie Max at Covent Garden Hotel are doing just that. Start with the likes of spiced sweet potato and coconut soup with cornbread; follow it with thyme roasted turkey, cornbread stuffing and cranberry and orange relish and finish with maple glazed pumpkin and pecan pie with vanilla ice cream. Then undo your top button and wonder how you’re going to walk home.

STK London 

For one day and one day only, American steakhouse, STK London will be serving up a decadent Thanksgiving meal! There’ll be plenty of turkey. USDA short ribs, sausage and bread stuffing, creamed corn cake, roasted pumpkin puree and green beans with almond crumbs. Round it off with warm, spiced apple pie with moonshine ice-cream, what’s another mouthful when you’ve eaten that much already?

Sea Containers Restaurant 

Sea Containers Restaurant at Mondrian London isn’t just celebrating Thanksgiving on the 23rd of November they’re serving up a special Thanksgiving menu from the 20th until the 26th November. The menu includes the likes of baked pumpkin with braised turkey leg, whole grain mustard and honey and roast turkey with butternut squash, cranberry and pine nut stuffing. Pudding is being made by Great British Bake Off winner, Edd Kimber; he’ll be whipping up his signature pumpkin pie filled with a rich spiced pumpkin filling, with a dusting pecan crumble and a dollop maple cream.

The Jones Family Project

The Jones Family Project are celebrating Thanksgiving with a special menu that champions four classic American harvest fruits: apples, blueberries, grapes and cranberries and fours classic US anthems imagined as cocktails. Dishes include cream of squash soup with pumpkin seeds and winter truffle, paired with a Forever in Blue Jeans cocktail made from Wild Turkey 101 bourbon, Aperol, sweet vermouth, blueberry and sugar.

The Arch London 

If you don’t want to wait until Christmas for turkey then head to Hunter 486 at The Arch London, because they’ll be serving up roast Norfolk turkey with chestnut stuffing, green beans, bacon, sweet potato mash and cranberry sauce followed by apple pie with plenty of cinnamon custard.

108 Brasserie

108 Brasserie’s Thanksgiving menu is a veritable feast, you’ll find New England clam chowder with homemade corn bread; baked mac and cheese with leeks, squash and black truffle (which you can get with a side of mac and cheese, if you’re a super fan); grilled salmon with creamed sweetcorn, lime and jalapeno dressing and for pudding, New York cheesecake, pumpkin pie or pecan pie with cookie dough ice cream. Just writing that makes us feel rather full…

The Montagu is taking one for the team by serving up a Thanksgiving menu so that you don’t have to do the cooking, isn’t that nice of them? Alongside classic American dishes such as roasted squash soup and turkey, you’ll also find more English offerings like game terrine with pheasant, pigeon, duck and rabbit with spiced apple chutney and Bramley apple pie with home churned apple cider sorbet.

Smith & Wollensky is no stranger to Thanksgiving, having started in America and now they’re going to show us Londoner’s how it’s done with their banquet. You’ll find USDA prime dry-aged sirloin, herb roasted turkey, roasted Brussels sprouts with smoked bacon and caramelized shallots, pumpkin and pecan pie and apple and blueberry cobbler. That’s how you do it.

Long bar at Sanderson Hotel has created a special cocktail to celebrate Thanksgiving which they serve in a carved pumpkin! Named the 1621 after the year it is though that Thanksgiving was first celebrated, the cocktail is created from Makers Mark, cloudy apple juice, lemon juice and cinnamon syrup. Cheers.

Heliot Steak

Heliot Steak House are serving up the Turducken this Thanksgiving! It’s the gigantic roast of whole duck inside a whole chicken inside a whole turkey and it weighs in at a hefty 12.6kg. To go with it will be mashed potato, roast butternut squash, green beans and gravy followed by homemade pumpkin pie and plenty of American beer.

Blue Door Bistro

The Blue Door Bistro is putting on a special thanksgiving spread this year with delicious delights such as the spiced pumpkin soup to start. For those besotted with tradition there is of course a roast turkey with all the trimmings, but perhaps the Blue Door Bistro could entice you outside of the box. Why not try the Blackened swordfish with spinach mash, grilled zucchini and ginger butter sauce.

The English Grill at the Rubens Hotel is hosting its own thanksgiving event, will you be starting with the Sweet Corn Chowder, with smoked applewood cheese and chilli croquettes, or perhaps the barbecued pigs cheeks with spicy sweet potato coleslaw. From the black leg turkey, to the maple glazed fillet of salmon, you’re in for a treat.
