Christmas comes early in Germany with St Nikolaus arriving in town on December 6th, and this year he’s clearly made a detour via Rosewood London with a vat of German gin. Rosewood London will be hosting their winter gin lodge, a mystical cabin in an enchanting forest and set within the hotel’s courtyard. Offering the perfect escape from the Christmas crowds the gin lodge will serve Monkey 47 Gin in hot and cold cocktails, all inspired by German desserts.
Monkey 47 is a Black Forest gin with British roots, having been developed by British Wing Commander Montgommery “Monty” Collins who ‘passed through’ Germany during the Second World War then decided to settle there after the war and develop gin instead. The result was Monkey 47, named after a monkey he sponsored at Berlin Zoo, and makes the most of the Black Forest’s plentiful array of ingredients. Infusing the 47 different botanicals (over a third coming straight from the Black Forest) that make up Monkey 47, the gin is excellent and a perfect match for one of London’s best hotels.
Anyone looking for something a little different, a little ginnier, a little Germanic with a dash of luxury, needs to head straight to Rosewood London and get a Monty’s Strudel cocktail.
The Monkey 47 Winter Lodge is open now until 28th February 2018
