Let’s Rock And Roll To Stoke Newington
Make Be-Bop-A-Lula your baby down in Stoke Newington at this rock’n’roll themed bar. Don your leather jacket, Brylcreme your hair and head down to Green Lanes in N16 for a real taste of the 1950s.
The effect is convincing, the walls are covered with artwork and posters from the era, 30 contemporary guitars are strung up from the ceiling above the bar and there’s diner booth seating, record players, period TVs, a slot machine, vintage lighting and all-in-all a realistic-feeling ‘50s asthetic.
The music will also be 100% authentic, there’s a wurlitzer jukebox with 1,000s of classics ready to play everything from Elvis to Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis. And the music will be very much in evidence on the menu too, with classic diner and pub food all with clever 50s twists, including little bites like Little Richards, mini pork sausages in honey mustard, and Frikin Wings, coated in BBQ sauce.
The menu will also feature The Famous Elvis Sandwich, a medley of the foods that presumably eventually led to The King’s premature death on that Graceland toilet: toasted bloomer bread, mashed banana, peanut butter and bacon. The Hound Dog, with saveloy sausage sounds like a friend of ours, while the Be-Bopa-Burger, made from aged Scottish beef and an alternative to the the Chick Berry Burger free range chicken breast burger, and finally the BB King Ribs and the Fats Domino Pizza. For dessert, why not try the James Brownie?
Drinks will, of course, be mainly American with Sierra Nevada and Lagunitas IPA, but varied with a local flavour in the form of local brews from the local Hammerton Brewery.
Along with regular live bands and pre-60s ‘rock-aoke’ Be-Bop-A-Lula will also show live sports (presumably on a 9″ black-and-white screen), and given it’s come from the same people that gave us The Alma and North by Northwest we’re expecting big things. Mods need not apply.
Be-Bop-A-Lula is now open at 68-70 Green Lanes, Stoke Newington, N16 9EJ
