Happiness for The Handbook is, not surprisingly, food. When it comes to Christmas if you don’t know what to get us, then hampers get us giddy. Not that we’re hinting…of course not.
If, however, you were looking to buy someone a hamper than let us introduce you to Panzer’s Deli. If you live in St John’s Wood then chances are you know it, it’s been open since 1944 after all. In that time, it’s grown a loyal following with many celebrities dropping in (Yotam Ottolenghi and Nigella Lawson are said to be regulars) for their smoked salmon and bagels which are said to be some of the best in London, we’ve tried them and trust us they’re good.
Having been in London for so long it was time for an upgrade, and recently the deli has started its next chapter with a new sushi counter, coffee bar, cheese counter, charcuterie counter, lunch deli and is home to 80 world foods.
Drop in for a coffee and sandwich, sit at the sushi counter and eat yellow tail with mustard miso cut roll; then fill up your basket with American cookies, meat from Argentina and French cheese from artisan producers.
The best part? The hampers. You don’t have to choose from a set selection, instead you can create your own, so if you know your friend is obsessed with breakfast you can create them a hamper of bagels, salmon, coffee, jam and tea. Or if someone is a fan of pasta why not create them a hamper filled with different pastas, ingredients for sauce and cheese to sprinkle on it. Really the possibilities are endless. Good news for us then.
Whether you’ve got Christmas shopping still to do or you just fancy picking up something for breakfast this weekend, make Panzer’s Deli part of your foodie repertoire.
