Fancy Curry At The Palace?

Apparently Prince Charles loves a good curry, can’t get enough of the stuff. So may we humbly suggest to the heir to the throne that he should toddle over the road from Buckingham Palace and check out The Rubens at The Palace’s new Indian restaurant, because it’s certainly fit for a king.

The Rubens at The Palace hotel has been undergoing extensive renovations of late, and now the final piece of the puzzle falls into place as The Curry Room opens. Serving traditional Indian dishes the restaurant is yet another example of the Indian fine-dining trend sweeping the capital. And given the pedigree, it should also be one of the best.

Chef Arun Kumar has worked hand-in-hand with Kevin Joseph, Executive Chef at South Africa’s The Oyster Box Hotel, The Rubens’ sister property, to design an authentic Indian and South African menu. Harnessing the vast experience and Joseph is a deft touch given he’s responsible for The Curry Buffet at The Oyster Box in Durban as well as The Curry Room at The Old Government House Hotel in Guernsey.

The all-inclusive menu that the pair have created includes Indian starters, mains and puddings.

Starting with samosas and poppadums with the usual condiments should heighten the anticipation of a selection of main courses including a taste of Joseph’s traditional KwaZulu-Natal dishes like Lamb Curry and Prawn and Chicken Curry as well as Indian staples like the Spicy Beef Vindaloo, Vegetable Korma and Butter Chicken. All served with basmati rice, the Chef’s vegetable side-dish and traditional Indian bread.

There will be four puddings for diners to choose from, Indian infused Kulfi ice cream, fresh papaya and sorbet, traditional trifle, or baked vanilla cheesecake.

Wines include a selection from Bouchard Finlayson, The Rubens’ sister vineyard in South Africa alongside, naturally, Kingfisher and Cobra beers – perfect for curry.

The new restaurant is an impressive string to an already impressive bow at The Rubens at The Palace, perfect for a curry-hungry prince.
