The 9th and 10th June, get the dates in your diary. They’re more important than August Bank Holiday, more important than Christmas and definitely more important than Valentine’s Day. Why? Because it’s the fifth Junipalooza London, the connoisseurs gin festival and you know us Londoners can’t get enough of the stuff.
Taking place at Tobacco Docks, over World Gin Day (Saturday 9th June) they’ll have 60 different distilleries representing over 150 gins to 3,500 thirsty gin fans. Their unique policy of having either the master distiller or the owner of the gin of the company present and pouring the samples means that not only will you learn about the spirit, but you’ll also learn about the spirit behind the spirit.
London is of course the global capital for gin, but there’ll also be over 35 British gin-makers present from around the UK, with both old and new distilleries sitting alongside each other.
Just to give you a taste of who to expect, you’ll have: Boatyard Gin, Poetic Licence Gin, Marylebone Gin and Cotswold Gin from the UK; Death’s Door Gin representing the USA; Broken Heart Gin from Australasia; Blackwater Gin and Bertha’s Revenge from Europe and a whole host of other gins.
Of course, wherever there is gin, tonic water isn’t far behind, and the likes of Franklin & Sons; Fentiman’s; Sekforde and Lamb & Watt will all be showcasing their portfolios. It’s not just about tasting the gin (although it sort of is); there’ll also be food and masterclasses so you can leave knowing something about the gin you love so much.
