“Oo-de-lally, oo-de-lally, golly, what a day”, Tom Sellers is set to launch a Robin Hood themed popup. Called Merry Men, the restaurant will be an immersive dining experience, set in a forest and calling back to Sellers’ Nottingham upbringing.
Timed to coincide with the refurbishment of Sellers’ Restaurant Story, the banquet style dining will see Sellers back in storytelling mode, drawing on his passion for history and provenance, and centred around dishes heavy on traditionally prepared meats. Look out for bone marrow, eel and parsley or his smoked haddock in milk. Other dishes will include braised and hot smoked lamb leg, anchovies and capers and beef cheeks in hay. All this will be served alongside drinks selected by Restaurant Story’s Head Sommelier and a cocktail menu created by mixologist Matt Whiley specially for the pop-up.
The 60-seat venue, set over three floors on Southwark Street, will be transformed into a woodland themed bar and restaurant with guest chefs filling in as Story’s Merry Men once a week, starting with Jason Atherton, and seeing them collaborate with Sellers. And in true Robin Hood style, the rich will be robbed (not really robbed, four courses are £65 including a drink) to give money to the poor in the form of Hospitality Action.
