The golden age of steam travel, from Roberta waving her scarlet pants in Railway Children to everyone lining up to stab Ratchett in Murder On The Orient Express, it’s imprinted of our collective national psyche. That and tea, a British obsession since, like, forever. So the savvy people over at luxury train company Belmond British Pullman have only gone and put together a luxury afternoon tea.

The tea, to celebrate August’s Afternoon Tea Week, will involve a round-trip aboard the Belmond British Pullman as it chuffs its way through the British countryside for a three hour adventure that will see each couple dining at tables laid with crisp white linen and bespoke china while they down a bottle of Champagne Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Rosé and munch through an exclusively designed afternoon tea comprised of sumptuous sandwiches and savouries, cakes, pastries and scones. Plus coffee, petits fours and, of course, tea. The food is courtesy of award-winning chef Claire Clark while the tea is an exclusive blend designed for the occasion by English producer, Tregothnan.

As if that wasn’t exciting enough, look forward to as-yet unspecified ‘onboard entertainment’, which will probably be better than my usual fare of I-spy.

Running on August 19th to celebrate Afternoon Tea Week and the 50th anniversary of Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Rosé, what could be classier, more enjoyable or sophisticated?
